High School & Adult Packets

Readers Theatre is increasingly popular as a social recreation for adults as well as a classroom activity for oral interpretation, theatre, literature, foreign language, and many other subjects. Our Packets are designed to meet these needs.

These Packets encompass a wide range of interests -- humorous and serious classic stories by popular American, English, and Continental authors, significant poems arranged for group performance, materials to study various RT styles, great literature as a bilingual experience, and the first of our planned Science Series.

Some of the Packets offer interesting staging challenges to adults even though the literature was originally intended for young readers. Other scripts have mature subject matter. All have been pretested by the Institute for Readers Theatre. No previous theatre experience is required of you or your cast as you follow our step-by-step instructions.

COMPOSITE PACKET: THE WORLD OF MISS BRILL by Katherine Mansfield and others; THE ENCHANTED CHAIR by Charles Dickens - This packet demonstrates how a composite program can be organized with its various literary materials placed in a dramatic context. Located in a park with Mansfield’s brilliant story as the centerpiece, it is intercut with Lawrence Ferlinghetti’s “The World is a Beautiful Place,” and Miss Brill’s readings interpolated with poems by Blake, Browning, Shakespeare and Edna St. Vincent Millay. The performance style is Chamber Theatre. To explore a contrasting pertormance style we have added Charles Dickens’ delightful ghost story, THE ENCHANTED CHAIR, arranged for Staged Readers Theatre. Both scripts can be performed separately or together linked by the subject of “Life Viewed from Bench & Chair.” Cast; 4 each. Time 25 & 17 mins. $14.95
