INTERNATIONAL READERS THEATRE WORKSHOP Reservation form is at bottom of this page WORKSHOP FEATURES Classes are held Monday-Friday, with late afternoons, evenings, and the weekend free. A "hands-on" experience, virtually all work is done in class. Cost includes two weeks in a shared twin room with private bath and Continental breakfast; also included are Workshop fees, instruction, materials, and textbook (for first time participants). This is an incredible way to experience London for two weeks with your hotel cost and breakfast included as part of the Workshop and paid for in U.S. dollars, not British pounds. CREDIT OPTIONAL Academic enrollment is not required nor included in the $1,975 Workshop fee. This is a unique opportunity, however, for participants to acquire up to 9 units of graduate or 6 units of undergraduate credit, invaluable for those working for a degree, higher teaching pay, professional advancement, or personal tax advantage. CREDIT STUDENTS SHOULD EXPECT TO SPEND ADDITIONAL TIME OUTSIDE OF CLASS FOR RESEARCH AND REPORTS. FACILITIES The Workshop will be held at the lovely Hampstead Britannia Hotel, in London's Garden District. In addition to an inviting lobby and lounge, elevators, great bar and dining room, excellent teaching facilities, and easy access to transportation into the heart of London, we have bedrooms with a private bathroom, telephone, and T.V. Our Continental breakfast includes cold sliced ham and cheeses, in addition to the usual toast, cereals, fruits, yogurt, juices and coffee or tea. (http://www.britanniahotelhampstead.co.uk/) ENTERTAINMENT London is unquestionably the entertainment capital of the world with unrivaled theatres, concert halls, museums, historical and cultural landmarks, and recreations of every conceivable kind. Most museums and cultural landmarks are either free or request a simple donation. A wide range of theatre opportunities is available by purchasing same-day (matinee or evening -- some people have been known to do BOTH in one day!) tickets at the official half-price booth in Leicester Square, the heart of the theatre district. The faculty are all frequent London visitors and will assist individuals and groups in enjoying this fascinating city to the maximum. A number of optional activities are led by the faculty: City Bus Tour, Camden Town Canal Trip, Afternoon Tea, Pub Crawl, Museum Tour, and weekday morning Tai Chi warm-ups, and Shakespeare Walk/Globe Tour (led by brilliant young actor, Callum Coates). PAYMENT WORKSHOP PACKAGE: $1,975 (U.S. currency) includes housing for two weeks (twin accommodations), Continental breakfast, mid-morning refreshment break, the Institute Book of Readers Theater textbook (for first time participants), and Institute fees. UNIVERSITY CREDIT Those who wish optional
credit -- for teachers' merit pay qualification, for advanced degrees, or
for tax write-off, if eligible -- may elect to enroll in up to 9 graduate
credits in Theatre (or Theatre/Speech) and Education (maximum of 6 graduate
credits can be taken in Education) from the University of Southern Maine.
An additional 3 credits (for a total of 12) may be earned by a pre-arranged
one year project to be completed after the Workshop. Undergraduates may
enroll for 3 or 6 credits. Tuition

INSURANCE Participants must provide evidence of their own health and accident insurance coverage. CANCELLATION Refund requires a request in writing before the Workshop begins. A full refund of payments already made, less a $75 administrative charge, will be given until May 1. From May 1 until June 1, the cancellation administrative charge is $100. After June 1, a $200 cancellation charge is applied. Half of this charge ($100) is waived if the participant finds a qualified replacement. Those in tentative situations should consider travel insurance. TRAVEL Our Workshop is scheduled during the high tourist season. We recommend that you make your travel plans early.
